Lucy giggled a little bit at his childish act, he was cute. "You're such a cornball," She said with a roll of her eyes, though still smiling. "You are a special cornball," She said, nodding. "I like the sound of that," She finished softly.
She scrunched her face up after he tapped her nose, it was another one of her fetishes. "Well, um..." She trailed off, not being able to think of a good retort. She gave a shrug, looking at him with a vacent expression, "I don't know what to say to that," She pouted a bit. "I hope you're happy with yourself. You've silenced me,"
Lucy's cheeks turned a little red, feeling his hand brush hers made her heart skip a tiny little beat. She looked up at the sky and then over at him again, lying down as well. "I like to play the drums," She smiled a bit and added with a nod, "Really, really loud,"

he flashed a smile at her, finding the way she giggled cute. actually, lucy was just plain cute period. he laughed and sat up when she called him a cornball. he didn't defend himself cause he kind of was. "aww, thank you" he told her, smiling. "me too." he agreed, biting down on his bottom lip gently. "i like all these nicknames you have given me."
keith mimicked her scrunched up face. it was an expression he made usually in photographs. she looked way cuter though. "sorry." he apologized for the nose tapping. it didn't occur to him that she might not like her face touched. he waited for her to come back with something, but she had nothing, which he kind of liked. maybe he was special to her. "no. i like hearing you talk." he told her.
this was turning out to be one big blush fest between lucy and keith. he wanted to put his hand by hers again, feel the warmth of it, the smoothness of her skin, hold her small hand in his larger one. lucy gave him these feelings that he hadn't felt in a long time. it scared him. their shoulders touched barely as she laid down and keith found himself taking yet another deep breath.
he laughed. "that's awesome. i play the bass. really, really, loud. my landlord is seriously thinking about evicting me. the only thing that's keeping me there is that fact that one. he owes me big time. and two. caitlin." he told her, not telling her who caitlin was. he was not going to introduce lucy to that now. it might scare her off. "what else?"

Lucy gave a shrug, moving her dark hair from her eyes, "They just pop into my mind," She said, chewing on her bottom lip as well. "I say what's on my mind," She simply shrugged as she finished saying this, still chewing on her bottom lip.
She gave a simple shrug. "I really have nothing else to say though," She said, giving him an apologetic smile, biting her lip in the process. "I can probably say some other things, if you just say something random I won't shut up about it," She said, grinning big now. It was true, if he even said the word cheese, she would probably spend an hour talking about how much she loved cheese and about all her memories that involved cheese and she wasn't sure he wanted to hear that.
"Caitlin is a pretty name," Lucy remarked, sighing after she did, "Who is she?" She asked, curiosity laced in every word. Lucy loved kids, she could interact with them better than with people her own age, mostly because little kids didn't have a thought in their mind and they couldn't judge you.

he smiled. "so that's it? you don't give me nicknames because you think they suit me? you give me nicknames because they just pop into that cute little head of yours?" he asked her, teasing her slightly. what she said might be true, but he would have loved if she gave him nicknames because she put thought into them. it would have been sweet. "good, make sure you always do."
he sighed, shaking his head. "so, you're telling me that all you do is eat, sleep, breathe and play the drums?" he asked, making sure. "come on lucy, im sure you do more than that. i mean, i could go on forever about what i like to do, but that would bore you to tears. but, if you say that's all there is, i'll take your word for it." he said with a nod. he bit down on his lip, trying to think of what to say. "ever been in a band? since you play the drums and all..." he rambled.
keith smiled. he thought so too. he named his daughter after all, since her mother wanted absolutely nothing to do with her daughter. he sighed when lucy asked who she was. he was hoping she wouldn't have, but he kind of knew she would. he bit down on his bottom lip, he was seriously thinking about lying, but that would be wrong. "caitlin is...my one year old daughter." he told her quietly. he glanced at her from the corner of his eye.

"Okay well if I thought of calling you an idiot, I wouldn't call you it," Lucy said, the wind picking up. "So I guess, yeah, I do think about what I'm calling you," She looked up at the sky, closing her eyes for a moment, "Makes sense," She looked back down at him, "Doesn't it?"
"I'm a cheerleader," Lucy replied, raising an eyebrow, "You have to swear you won't laugh. I'm only in it because I'm friends with all the preppy girls and they're in cheer," She gave a shrug, "I'm in vollyball and soccer too. But that'a about it, I don't have much going on," She scoffed at his band statement and shook her head, "No. But I'd like to. It seems really cool," She said nodding.
"You have a daughter?" Lucy asked, grinning even bigger now. "That's cool," She bit her lip, her grin fading into a soft smile. "I'm sorry. It's just, I love kids," She said, grinning again.

he looked down, frowning. that hurt a little. he played with the hole in the knee of his jeans and listened to her speak. he really didn't want to hear that lucy thought he was an idiot. that lowered his confidence level down even lower. he nodded when she asked it made sense. "mhm." he responded softly, holding his hair down so it wouldn't become disorganized with the wind blowing.
cheerleader? keith had to smirk at that and was actually about to laugh when she asked him not to. instantly he shut up, afraid of hurting her feelings. besides, just because she was a cheerleader didn't make her fake, ditzy, and bitchy. lucy seemed like the exact opposite. he scrunched up his face in disgust when she mentioned soccer and volleyball. "sports? ick. im horrible at sports." he mentioned. his face lit up when she said being in a band would be cool. "yeah, it's fun."
he nodded slowly, afraid of her reaction. keith was afraid that he messed things up between them and because he had caitlin he'd lose his chance of being with her. to his surprise, lucy smiled. he grinned back at her, extremely happy that she didn't care and in fact, loved children. he let out a breath that he had been holding in. he was relieved. "awesome." he responded. "so, you really don't mind that i have a daughter?" he asked, making sure.

"You get what I'm saying though right?" Lucy asked him, noticing his frown. "I really do put some thought into what I'm going to say," She looked at him, biting her lip again, "I really do,"
"They're not that bad," Lucy replied with a shrug, "And I'm sure you're not that bad at them," She scrunched up her face again, remembering him falling off of his car when she first approached him, "Or are you really clumsy?" She asked, hoping he wouldn't take it the wrong way. "You're in a band?" She questioned.
Lucy shook her head and tilted it a little, wondering how he could possibly begin to think she would care about his daughter. It was something he did in the past and she couldn't punish him for it. "No. I think it's really cool," She said, nodding slowly.

previously staring blankly at the sky quietly, keith turned his eyes onto her when she spoke. he nodded. obviously she knew he had been hurt by what she had said earlier and was trying very hard to convince him she meant otherwise. keith appreciated her effort. he place his hand gently over hers and squeezed it lightly, a bold move on his part. "i know you do." he whispered, letting her hand go soon after.
he snorted, clearly she never saw him in p.e. class. "no, really lucy, im horrible. the p.e. teacher never lets me play. she sits me down on the sidelines and makes me keep time, play reforee, or keep score. im dangerous." he admitted with a nod. "there's more chance of me breaking your leg than scoring a goal." he laughed when she asked if he was really that clumsy. "yes i am, im so uncoordinated. you'll see, that's if we still keep hanging out."
"yeah im in a band, when i said i'd call over some band mates to help me push my car home, who did you think i meant? the little furry creatures of the forest?" he joked with a smile. "anyways, yes i am. have been since sophmore year. i play bass and back up vocals and i write most our songs. we're great. all the junk in my friends' garage love us." he joked.
he smiled at her. he found himself liking her even more by the second. most girls would think that it was too much baggage and wouldnt want to be with a boy who had a daughter. keith shook his head. of course lucy wouldn't care. they weren't dating, so nothing tied her to caitlin. she was just a friend who offered approving support, something no one close to him ever did. "thanks. all the popular kids are doing it too." he joked.

Lucy was disapointed when he let go of her hand, it felt really nice, him squeezing her hand and all. She bit her lip, turning away from him as she did. She let out a sigh, wanting him to grab her hand again, but really doubted he would, he was way too timid to attempt to hold her hand again.
"You want to keep hanging around with me?" Lucy asked, tearing herself away from the scenery to look at him and raise an eyebrow. "'Cause if you do all I do is play soccer," She grinned at him, only to show him she would love to hang out with him as well,
"Cornball," Lucy muttered, a smile still plastered on her face. "I could babysit her anytime you need me too," Lucy offered, her face looking hopeful as she awaited his acceptance or his rejection in the offer.

he was beating himself up inside. keith hated the fact that he was so shy. he was also a bad flirt and was bad at asking a person out. but once he got past the first stage of a relationship, he was good to go. he wanted to hold her hand. heck, he wanted to hold her, but keith knew himself all too well. he'd never make the first move.
smiling, he looked back at her. "of course i do silly." he said, laughing as he playfully smacked her on her thigh as if she had said the most hilarious thing in the entire world. "i'm having fun being here with you and i'm not letting you walk away from me until we schedule another hang out." he told her firmly. he groaned. "hate sports." he said in a sing song voice. "but, i'll play just for you."
he laughed. "you know it." he commented. he looked over when she brought up babysitting. keith only let the old lady across the hall, mrs. richardson, babysit his daugher. it was awfully sweet of lucy to offer and he wanted to take her up on that, but something was holding him back. "i'm not sure lucy. i mean, i try to keep caitlin from meeting my friends." he explained. "i dont want her to get attached and then they leave. so...you have to promise, to stick around." he said softly, looking into her eyes and biting down on his lip.

She knew it. She knew Keith wasn't going to muster up enough courage to grab her hand, but that didn't bother her. With him there with her, nothing seemed to bother her, all her little tiny insecurities and problems just floated away. They would come back though, she knew they would, but not with this boy around.
Lucy rolled her eyes as he said what he said but had to grin when he slapped her gently on the thigh. "Don't you mean when you get out of my sister's car?" She asked him, "I have to give you a ride home," She pouted, "'Member?" She said in a baby like voice.
What he said, it kind of broke Lucy's heart. He didn't think she would stick around? She didn't know why she did what she did but, she did it. She leaned over and kissed him gently on the lips, only for a few seconds. "I promise I'll stay," She said, laying back down, waiting for his reaction.

laying on the hard hood stiffly, keith tried to muster up enough courage to take her hand. it was so close to his that he could feel the warmth of her skin on his own. his brain was telling him to stop being a wimp and to just reach for it, but his heart was holding him back. keith's heart was still broken and he was afraid of being hurt. lucy might be the duct tape to mend it, or she could be another one of the people to smash it.
"right." he told her, nodding. he smiled when she pouted. her lips looked irresistable and he found himself wanting to press his own against hers in a soft kiss. but he didn't. however, he had managed to increase his heart beat at the thought. keith leaned in, pressing his forehead to hers gently. "i member." he said, copying her baby like voice with a smile on his face. he pulled away once more and stared at the sky.
he hadn't meant for his words to hurt her, but keith was being honest. people come and go and keith had lost so many people in his life already. two who died and four who distanced themselves because they hated who he was. he lost so many people and if he allowed himself and his daughter to get close to lucy, that meant there might be a possibility of losing her too.
then he felt her lips on his, for what had to be a fraction of a second. it was remarkable and it sent amazing sensations through his veins. keith in fact, felt sick. in a good way though. although the kiss was short, it left him breathless and lightheaded. hearing her speak, he turned to look at her. his face was sad though. keith sat up, shaking head. "you shouldn't have done that lucy..." he responded softly, knowing he'd regret what he was going to say to her.

"Good," Lucy said with a soft laugh. "I was gonna have to build a time machine and take you back," She said, nodding again. "I would have too. I just needed a few things. Number one was a Jimmy Neutron brain," She grinned at him, "I'm not that smart," She shook her head and closed her eyes, "No matter what you say. I'm not!"
Lucy was hurt when he said this, and slightly confused. "Why the hell not?" She asked him, propping herself up on her elbows, her face showing she was hurt, and not that fake hurt, the real kind, the kind that took a long time for it to go away. "I like you," She scoffed, her gaze going to the ground below, but went up when she added, "I just wanted to make that clear,"

he shook his head, "i don't believe that." he said firmly, ending the dicussion about her intelligence.
it broke keith's own heart to hurt lucy. he had never been the person doing the hurting in a situation like this, keith had always been the one getting hurt. right now, he preferred to hurt himself over hurting lucy, but he had no choice.
he flinched at her words, they surprised him. he sat up, looking at her. his face was sad also and his eyes were glassy, as if he was about to cry. that was something else lucy would have to deal with - his sensitivity. "because im scared!" he told her honestly, louder than necessary.
keith turned away from her, unwilling to look her in the eyes. "i like you too lucy." he admitted in a whisper. his head was bent down, but he allowed his eyes to glance back up at her slowly. "you don't know how bad i've been wanting to hold your hand or kiss you...you just don't understand what i've been through."
"my heart is still broken and i have walls that i spent so much time putting up. you're going to break through them, i know you will because i know i'll let you. i'm falling for you so bad and what if you dont catch me? what if i let you in and you hurt me?" he asked, dead serious. "i know, that im acting like a girl in this...but..." he stopped, crying now. he turned his head away.
he wiped his eyes and slid off the hood. he stood on the ground, letting his eyes fixate on his dirty converse. she wouldnt understand him. keith was complicated. he had a past. he could not simply just be with with her. he turned around and shoved his hands into his pockets. "i should go. just...forget about the ride...i can walk..."

She couldn't let him leave like he was. She wouldn't let him, and she would kill herself if she just let him walk away from her like that.
She slid off the hood as well, stuffing her hands in the pockets of her jeans listening to him speak, she wasn't going to interrupt him, not when he was really opening up like he was.
It was her turn to speak and she knew it. "Listen Keith," She bit her lip, her hands digging deeper into her pockets. "I'm willing to do whatever it'll take to get you to trust me. I don't care about all the hoops I'll have to jump through and all the obstacles I'll have to avoid," She squinted a bit, what she did to keep herself from crying. "I'll do whatever it takes,"
She watched him turn away but grabbed his hand, turning him back to her. She grabbed his other hand, interlocking their fingers. "I'll still give you a ride,"

he listened to her speak. her words were so reassuring. keith looked down, sniffling a little. he spent too much of his life in tears, he didn't want to cry anymore, but he couldn't stop himself. lucy sounded so sincere, but then again, so did chase and so did holly, and they hurt him.
although he was resisting, he wanted to put his heart on the line. he wanted to give lucy a chance and a chance is what she was about to get. he liked that she understood things would be complicated, that he was still hurt from his past, yet she was still committed. she still wanted him. that meant a lot.
he liked the way it felt when she held his hands, he liked it even more when their lips had touched. he didnt want to push her out. he hadn't liked anyone in over a year. his feelings for lucy were strong and he didnt want them to be messed with. keith closed the distance between them, letting their bodies and faces become close.
"promise me..." he began in a whisper, his voice low and cracking, a sign of more tears to come. "promise me you wont hurt me lucy. promise me that you wont dissappoint me, promise me that you wont break my heart but mend instead. promise me all of those things and mean it." he told her, looking her dead in the eyes before he closed his own and let his lips brush against her jawline, feeling the softness of her skin.
